BANGKOK, Jan 12 (AFP) - Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos met Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to discuss the tsunami disaster Wednesday, vowing support for efforts to revive the country's tourism industry.
Moratinos, who also met his Thai counterpart Surakiart Sathirathai, backed the decision for the Madrid-based World Tourism Organisation to hold a special meeting on the resort island of Phuket from January 31 to February 1, a foreign ministry official said.
The Spanish diplomat also offered condolences from the Spanish royal family and his government over the disaster that killed more than 5,300 people here.
Spain will also send fisheries experts to find ways of helping to revive the parts of the Thai fishing industry hit by the tsunami.
