BANGKOK (Manager Daily)- Cathay Pacific Co. said the fallen part of its Boeing 777-300 last week was caused by overheat in a duct which as a result a metal sleeve around the exhaust sheared off and fell to the ground.

Today (December 12), Cathay Pacific held its briefing on engine part falling on a car on Chaengwattana Road on December 1. This happened to the CX 751 flight from Bangkok to Mumbai which was the Boeing 777-300 aircraft.

The airliner said investigations have found that overheat from the duct of the engine which controls the direction of the exhaust was found to make the part shear off. Touched by the part, the engine went in flame; the problem was identified and solved and 10 existing Boeing 777-300 planes of the fleet will be used again.

Bangkok’s Tung Song Hong police station said on Sunday the fallen part, a round aluminium measured two metres in diameter and sixty centimetres in height had damaged a car on the a Bangkok main road near a discount store on December 1.

The airline had agreed to settle with the owner of the damaged Nissan Sunny sedan, who is a lawyer, and who demanded a new car and compensation of around 2 million baht, said the police.

Cathay Pacific said last week the incident was an ‘unrelated, isolated” one, bearing no implication whatsoever that the airline’s maintenance and reliability standards have compromised.
