BANGKOK (Managr Daily)- The Japan External Trade Relations Organization (JETRO) in Thailand on Wednesday kicked start the ‘Japan Food Fair 2004’ in Bangkok, under the theme ‘Discover Real Japanese Cuisine’. The four-day fair will last until Dec 12.

This is the first time that Bangkok is the host of a Japanese food exhibition. The event is supported by Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries (Japan), Embassy of Japan in Bangkok, and the Thai-Japanese Chamber of Commerce.

One of the objectives is to introduce Japan’s One Village One Product (OVOP), to cooperate a product exchange programmed with the Thai One Tambon One Village (OTOP).

Several categories of OVOP products will be exhibited especially the ones from Oita prefecture, the model of Thailand’s OTOP. Other products include those from Japanese food companies, department stores, and superstores in Thailand.

There will be about 80 exhibition booths, of both Thai and Japanese food companies in the food fair. The public will be welcome from December 10-12 at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, the venue for related activities including seminars, business presentations, and Japanese traditional shows. Sushi-eating contests will also be featured.

Thailand is the 6th largest market for foods exported from Japan with the value totalled US$141 million last year.
